The role of a Director is defined in regulation and in Enterprise’s Rulebook, but broadly involves being part of a Board that provides governance for the credit union. This means providing support to staff and management, defining and assessing the strategic direction for the business and strong oversight of the finances to ensure the financial strength of the business and full compliance to the regulation. It requires a wide range of skills and an understanding of how a financial organisation works and is regulated. Any appointment must be confirmed at an AGM by a vote of the members and runs for a 3-year term which can be renewed on expiry up to max of 3 terms (9 years). The Board collectively needs a broad range of skills and knowledge to meet the needs of members and it is unlikely any one Director will have everything but a willingness to learn and develop is essential.
